Volunteer of the Year
December 13th 2008
Congratulations to David Lukens, WBTC Secretary, who is Wiltshire LTA’s ‘Volunteer of the Year 2008’.
David attended the LTA’s AGM on 4 December to receive the Clubmark plaque and certificate on behalf of WBTC, only to find that he was in line for another award!
The LTA presentation to David included the following details:
“David has been the Secretary of the Wootton Bassett Club for 10 years, instigating, amongst other things, the successful Junior Committee to support the work of the Head Coach at the club.
He has been an integral part of the Club’s Relocation Committee, involving himself in key meetings, business and development plans. He has been Secretary of the Swindon and District League and is remains an active committee member.
He still finds time to play year-round tennis socially, in league matches and club competitions. He is positive, reflective, an excellent listener, reliable and very, very nice.
Club members say “it is impossible to underestimate the contribution he has made, and continues to make, to the club”.
David, “Well done”, and, “Thanks,” again.

WBTC achieve LTA Clubmark accreditation
October 23rd 2008
We have been awarded Clubmark status by the LTA - this is basically the LTA’s seal of approval for the way we run the club. We had to submit a folder containing information about everything to do with the club - business plan, tennis programmes, coaching, child protection policies, management, facilities etc etc. A lot of work went into it so we are delighted to get this recognition.
LTA comments on our application included: “Very thorough club action plan”, “Great detail in Business plan as well as development plan”, “Great welcome pack and info for new members”, “Great website”.
Thanks are due to all those who have worked extremely hard to achieve this.

NWDC approve planning application for new sports hub
September 25th 2008
Last night the council approved the planning applications to develop the new sports hub on the Malmesbury Road as well as the applications to move the Rugby Club up to Ballards Ash.
That’s the good news! The less good news is that they delayed a decision on the application to build houses on the current Rylands Way site, pending a site visit by councillors. This scheme has to be approved if we are to have the funding for the whole project to go ahead.
Hopefully this will not cause more than a few weeks delay. Once the site visit has happened the submission will be discussed at the next planning meeting and a decision made.
