Another Tennis Leader!

Theo Lukens has become the latest junior club member to become a tennis leader. The course for 14-16 year olds is the first step on the coaching ladder. To pass the course, Theo attended 3 training sessions run at Marlborough Tennis Club and did 10 hours of helping Ali and Shaun with mini tennis on a Saturday. Any more out there who would like to get this useful qualification, talk to Ali.

Relocation project

This communication is from Paul Harrison, Relocation Project Manager…..

You will be aware that our Association submitted a year ago a planning application for the development of our planned relocation site, and jointly with Persimmon a planning application for the residential development of Rylands Way. I am pleased to confirm that North Wilts District Council Planning Committee has now resolved to grant planning permission for both developments. What this means is that the Councillors on the committee voted in favour of the developments, and it is a major step forward in our relocation project. However it does not mark the end of the planning cycle.

For full planning permission to be granted a legal document known as a Section 106 needs to be negotiated and signed, these documents outlining the community contribution (education, health, recreation, highways, etc.) to be made by the beneficiaries of the developments. In the case of Rylands Way it is for Persimmon to agree with NWDC. For the new site it is for the Association to agree, and as there is no financial gain to us of the development the contribution will surround such as ensuring relevant traffic management measures are installed on the Malmesbury Road.

Of course the key question now is what happens next, and what might the timeframe be for relocation. Unfortunately I can be far from specific, as it can take many months/years to progress the project through Section 106 agreements, grant application approvals, procurement for new site development, development, and finally transition to the new site. Certainly the economic climate is not working in our favour and will inevitably cause some delay. After careful consideration I have advised your Executive that we should plan on the basis of it taking a further 3 to 5 years to complete our relocation.

I understand and share the frustration you must feel regards this likely timeframe, but would urge that we all keep in mind the long term benefits of this relocation to our community, In the meantime we can prepare ourselves by making today some of the organisational changes required for the new site.

Should you have any questions or comments on the relocation these can be fed through to the relocation committee by your club representatives, David Lukens (tennis), Andy Walduck (football) and Nick Yalden (cricket).

Kind Regards,

Paul Harrison, Relocation Manager

New Years Day tournament

The traditional New Years Day tennis will take place again this year, starting 1.00pm. We will sort out the format on the day so don’t be late! Bring any left over mince pies, christmas puddings, turkey sandwiches, etc. etc.

Final Planning Permission granted

I’m delighted to report that at last nights NWDC planning meeting the councillors resolved to grant planning permission - by a margin of 6 to 4, so it was pretty close - for the development of Rylands Way. The next stage is for legal agreements surrounding community contributions (called section 106) to be agreed for both Rylands and the new site, and of course we may face delay due to the difficult current economic climate. The objectors may also seek further review and appeal of the application, so we are not completely there yet. However, none of that detracts from this being a major step forward in our relocation project.
