Planning submission for new sports hub
April 4th 2008
There was a meeting of the North Wilts DC Planning Committee last Wednesday, 2nd April to decide on all the planning applications related to the new sports hub.
Unfortunately councillors raised a number of questions which the planning officer was unable to answer so a decision was deferred. This was particularly frustrating as most of the questions have been answered already but hopefully the delay will not be long.
I will post any news on the date of the next meeting as soon as we have it.

Match practice
March 31st 2008
Match practice for men starts this Monday, 31st March at 6.15 and continues for four Mondays in total. After this week, start time will be 6.00pm.
Ladies match practice starts on Tues 1st April at 6.00 pm.
You must come to match practice if you want to be considered for a team. League matches start on 28th April so there is not much time to sharpen that competitive edge.

Wimbledon Tickets
March 14th 2008
We have been told by the LTA that in future years (eg 2009 onwards) we should distribute our allocation of Wimbledon tickets (usually about 13 pairs, Centre and No 1 courts) by ballot of British Tennis members only. Membership of British Tennis is free to all club members for this year but adults will be charged (£7.50) in 2009-10.
So this will be the last year under the present system which is:
A ballot of all club members including Juniors and Honorary members. Names are drawn out of a hat at a club event in April / May (as soon as we have notification of ticket allocation to us). All winners (one set of tickets go as the main raffle prize at the end of season party) are phoned and given a a list of available dates and told the earliest time they can phone back to reserve a date, to give everyone the same chance of getting their first choice. Tickets are then allocated on a first come first served basis.
This system has evolved as the fairest and most efficient way of allocating the tickets. It gives all club members an equal chance of winning a seat and all the winners an equal chance of getting the dates they want.
Last year’s winners were Owen Greenway, Wayne Hazell, Martin Warnes, Oliver Maher, Callum Garlick, Mike Thomas, Colin Balson, Ro Tuckett, Kate Dymoke, Sam Snell, Max Brennan, Emily Steel and Philip Hedditch.

Re-location news
February 28th 2008
Plans for the new Sports Hub have been submitted to North Wilts District Council and we hope the initial decision will be made in April. As I’m sure you all know this move will be a fantastic opportunity for the club to develop the coaching, competitive and social programmes with more courts and better facilities.
This information leaflet gives the background to the move:

Wootton Bassett are Wilts LTA Club of the Year
December 5th 2007
We were delighted to be given the award at the Wilts LTA AGM last night. Nominations for all the awards are made by Tennis Clubs that are affiliated to the LTA and the final decision is made by officers of the County LTA. Reasons for choosing us included:
- The increase in number of members
- The growth if the coaching programme leading to the award of LTA Satellite status this year
- The work done by our Competition Co-ordinator (Tak Ho) and the Junior Committee
- The work done on the re-location project
But of course the award belongs to everyone - club officers, coaching staff, committee members, playing members and parents for making us the best club in Wiltshire!
