Matty Morgan wins Men’s Singles

Matty won the championships at his first time of entering. A good entry of 12 enjoyed an afternoon in the sun (and wind) with some nail biting matches in the group stages. Phil Hews and Matty were both unbeaten before they met in the final where Matty’s controlled aggression won the day. Owen Greenway won the plate.

Katy is LTA Player of the year

Our own Katy Hancock was last night named the Player of the Year by Wiltshire LTA. Here are the reasons the LTA gave for their choice:

• Been playing tennis for over 10 years and has competed in over 300 ratings matches in her playing life.
• Is a loyal player at Wootton Bassett TC.
• This player has represented the County at 10’s, 12’s, 14’s, 18’s and senior level.
• This person is currently ranked number 3 in the Open County rankings and is our current 18&U County Singles and Mixed Doubles Champion.
• The current County Captain says “this person encompasses all the qualities of what makes a perfect team player, she is hard working, reliable, loyal and a very popular member of any team she represents.
• The County is proud and delighted she has a Wiltshire qualification.

She received the award from County President, Sir Geoffrey Owen at last night’s AGM. Tonight she is out in the cold playing for our A team at Pewsey. Well done Katy on a very well deserved award!

Tracy and Sidd take the Mixed Doubles Title

The Mixed Doubles champions for 2012 are Tracy Fieldsend and Sidd Wandrekar who beat Jackie Gough and Neil Davies in the final. Plate winners were Lara and Dave Hughes and the runners up were Maggie Snell and Paul Barrett.

Many thanks to Keith and Yvonne Sealy for organising a great afternoon and to all those who participated.

Phil Hews edges towards the grand slam…

Winners & Runners upThe Men’s Doubles Championships provided some great tennis yesterday. The weather window allowed full courts all afternoon, with plenty of close matches and far more tie-breaks than was good for us.

Congratulations to:

the Champions: Paul Barrett and Phil Hews,
the runners-up: David Lukens and Theo Lukens,
the Plate Winners: Andy Parfitt and Ceri Stephens,
the Plate runners-up: Colin Balson and Tony Wolfe.

Along with several other matches, both Finals were closely contested, and both were won 7/6 in tie-breaks of 10 points to seven.

Many thanks to Liz Lewis for her superb organisation and cakes.

Katy wins the Ladies singles (again!)

Men’s Singles Champion

Congratulations to Phil Hews on winning the 2012 Club Men’s singles. You can see him below receiving the very shiny trophy from David Lukens. Phil edged Owen Greenway in a close final and in addition to the trophy, he received a bottle of wine and a cheque for £850,000!!

Congratulations to Neil Davies, who won the Plate final against Colin Balson.

Mixed Doubles Championships

For the second year running Owen and Tracy have won the Mixed Doubles Championships. They won all their matches in a disappointingly small draw of five pairs, while Martin W and Anna came second, pipping Maggie and David L by one game.
